Cloth Diapering

As I find myself becoming increasingly "crunchy" (Is it weird that I love that term?  It reminds me of granola, and chocolate covered almonds, and popcorn, and jimmies (which I am pretty sure you cannot get organically or natural but also sure you cannot eat soft-serve ice-cream with out), but I digress) I am thinking more and more about cloth diapering.  I wanted to do it with my firstborn but all the folding and pinning just seemed like too much work.  Now, as I'm learning more I am convinced I can do it but totally overwhelmed with all the choices!  Prefolds?  All In Ones? One Size?  What's best for baby?  What's easiest?  Snaps or Velcro?  Most economical?  And what about covers?  Woolies or something else? How does a girl get started in this task?  So I am pleading with you, my faithful few, will you spread the word and help a girl out?  Please send your friends, family, enemies, whatever over to The Shoe to share their cloth diapering experiences, otherwise I may be walking around with a naked tushed baby in a few months and we just can't have that!

  1. How about asking our frenemies? ;) I do happen to know someone who did that...2 people as a matter of fact, so I will be asking, and relaying!

  2. Who are our frenemies? It's not me, right? Cause we all know my thoughts on cloth diapering already. :-)

  3. I do cloth diapering!! I have done it for all three of my girls and plan to do it with our next as well. Mostly I just do the prefolds. They are cheap, easy enough, and wear really well. I do have a couple homemade ones that a friend made for me, which I love, they snap together, which is nice when we are out. And, I was given a couple of the G-diapers as well. I really like those for on the go too, but they DO NOT hold up with a poopy diaper as well:) The inner liner snaps in, which is nice, but the cover doesn't seem to be holding up as well (the velcro seems to be wearing out). They are very expensive too. BUT, they are a diaper that grows with the baby, so you can use it for a lot longer. The prefolds you have to buy different sizes. But, they have clips now, instead of safety pins, SO much easier:)
Okay, I guess that's all the details I have:) Good Luck!

  4. I am an old man part of the generation of men who started to help with the babies including changing diapers. Why in the world would anyone want diapers full of poopy that has to be cleaned in the john and later be wash, folded and put away.

My suggestion is stay in your time and not go back to mine. Buy the pampers, put on, take them off and throw them AWAY.

  6. Your Grandma says I am wrong (so what's new). She said the land fills are full of the non-cloth and will be there forever. she says check out the best way to go with cloth and go that way.

  7. Jilliansdrawers.com has a cloth diaper trial that is excellent. I used it when starting to CD my twins and was totally overwhelmed by all the options. If you're not happy with the diapers the most you'll be out is $10. Good luck!
